Believe in me! Corona Youth Performing Arts Program
Roberta Wells Conservatory, Corona Congregational Church UCC and Florence E. Smith Community Center collaborate to present quality youth arts program for tots to teens.
Corona, NY November 4, 2009 – Parents and young people looking for affordable performing arts classes should consider a new program starting in Corona. The Roberta Wells Conservatory of Arts & Learning, an eight year old youth arts organization whose motto is Not Just For Art, For Lifehas partnered with Corona Congregational Church and the Florence E. Smith Community Center to present Believe In Me!, an after-school and Saturday creative performance and technique workshop beginning December 4, 2009 for youth aged 4 - 18. The workshop is funded in part by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs through City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. and will feature classes for boys and girls in theatre, jazz and hip-hop dance, cheerleading, ballet, creative writing and pre-school creative movement. Corona Church’s Interim Minister Eugene Palmore says, “We are proud to partner with the Roberta Wells Conservatory and open our doors to all members of the diverse community that is Queens. Corona has been the home of one of America’s finest artist, Louis Armstrong. Our church recognizes that the arts can be the key to success in all facets of a young person’s life.” The Conservatory’s Artistic Director Tracie Spellman says, “Our mission is to serve pre-school to high school aged children with programs that are excellent, creative and fun. Our students past and present are excelling in their formal schooling and competitive arts programs throughout New York. Collaborating with a stable and concerned institution like Corona Church gives us the opportunity to serve more children than we had previously been able to.” There will be two information and orientation meetings given in English and Spanish. Saturday, November 14, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Corona Congregational Church, 102-18 34 Avenue and Friday, November 20, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Florence E. Smith Community Center, 102-19 34 Avenue.
